Tax Relief/Adoption
Federal Hope for Child Act One of the largest sources of funds for adoption is the Federal Hope for Children Act which provides an adoption tax credit. As of the year 2004, adoptive parents may be eligible for a tax credit up to $10,390 per adoptive child. Check with your tax professional to see if this applies to you or your family.
Child Tax Credit http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc607.html In addition to the tax credit for adoptive children, you may also be eligible for the federal child tax credit. This is a credit of $1,000 for each child that qualifies under the age of 17. The child must be your dependent and must be a U.S. citizen.
State Tax Relief Most states offer some type of tax relief including tax credits, exemptions, or deductions. Check with your state’s Department of Revenue or your tax professional for specific information on individual rules and requirements for each state.
Subsidies for Special Needs Children
www.nacac.org/subsidy_stateprofiles Adoption assistance or subsidies are payments made by a state or federal government to parents who adopt a special needs child. Check the website to see if your child qualifies.
Active Duty Military
This program is available for reimbursement of adoption expenses for members of the military. You need to be on active duty and may be of any branch of the U.S. armed forces or Coast Guard.
Private Employer Adoption Benefits
Companies that offer Adoption Benefits www.holtintl.org/adoption/benefits Many companies offer adoption benefits. Benefits can range from parental leave to financial assistance.
Adoption Friendly Workplaces 2007 www.adoptionfriendlyworkplace.org Many employers offer adoption benefits in several forms which may include reimbursement of adoption expenses, paid adoption leave and access to adoption resources. The Dave Thomas Foundation puts this list out every year.
Credit Cards
or www.credit-card-applications-center.com Adoptive parents may consider putting adoption costs on a credit card. People considering this should compare cards carefully. This website allows you to compare credit card rates, terms, and offers online.
Adoption Loans
401(k) Loans Adoptive parents may borrow against their retirement account to pay for adoption. Many companies allow you to borrow up to 50% of the account value.
A Child Waits Foundation This is a non-profit organization that provides low interest loans.
APFUSA A loan processing company for adoptive parents.
Child Adoption Funds They assist families in setting up an individual foundation that can provide tax deductions to those that contribute.
Hebrew Free Loan Association They offer no interest loans to people of Jewish faith in Northern California for adoption.
Home Equity Loans (secured) Parents of adoptive children who own their home and have equity may be able to obtain a loan to pay for their adoption.
Jewish Free Loan Association This association offers no interest loans to people of Jewish faith in the Los Angeles area.
MBNA You may apply online. Interest rates for your loan are variable based on credit history.
Oxford Adoption Foundation The Oxford Foundation offers no interest or low interest loans for adoptions.
The Abba Fund They help families through interest-free covenant loans.

Other Adoption Loans (unsecured)
Check with banks, credit unions, organizations, and private foundations who offer loans specifically for adoptions. These loans typically have lower interest rates and well as shorter repayment terms than standard loans.
Matching Grants Programs
Thrivent Financial Several communities have a Thrivent Financial Business that offers matching grants. Check with your local branch.

Fundraisers and Fundraising Accounts
A Child’s Desire They offer fundraising programs through magazine subscriptions and selling child photo ID’s.
One Dollar Adoption A community of adoptive families rallying around each other and supporting each other. Families supporting one another and joining resources. Their motto is, "Together, we can bring each other's children home."
A Mother’s Love Fundraising www.amotherslovefundraising.com This program offers several fundraisers including some common ones like Tupperware, Avon and Pampered Chef. All orders from fundraisers are forwarded to this program for processing and a profit check is then sent to you.
Anna Bears Adoption Fundraising A fundraiser offering selling t-shirts and teddy bears.
Child Adoption Funds This website states it will set up a foundation account for adoptive parents so that your network of people may make tax deductible donations to the foundation.
His Kids Too! This foundation has a program called the Adoption Bank where your network of people may donate money towards your adoption expenses and they will pay the expenses on your behalf.
Kingdom Kids Adoption Ministries You may have to solicit donations on your behalf and this Ministry accepts those donations to their organization. Then they award grants not to exceed the amount of donations received in response to your solicitations and give this money directly to your adoption agency for expenses.
Wal-mart Many Wal-marts give out community grants. Check out your local Wal-mart for a community grant application.
Independent Fundraising
Bake sales, fundraising breakfasts or dinners, church benefits, car washes, raffles, and craft sales are all additional ways to fundraise for adoption expenses. Send letters to family, friends and business acquaintances asking for adoption donations for your adoption. Have a kid’s carnival.
Discounted Adoption Airfare
Adoption Travel.com A resource for international travel
British Airways This airline offers up to 65% discount for adoptive parents.
Expedia
Frequent Flyer Miles Some people are willing to donate their frequent flyer miles. These can reduce your travel expenses if you are careful in selecting the appropriate airline to match donated miles.
Miles For Kids Program This program is designed to provide air fare for children with medical treatment. There is criteria that needs to be met to fulfill the programs requirements.
Northwest Airlines and KLM Dutch Airlines These 2 airlines are owned by the same company and offer “specials” from the U.S. to over 100 international destinations. There is flexibility and usually no penalties for changes or cancellations. They may offer up to 65% off fares for international adoptions.

Travelocity
United Airlines and Lufthansa Airlines Again 2 airlines owned by the same company offering “specials” on fares for travel from the U.S. to many international destinations.
